Role Description:

Today’s fastest electrical computing systems are failing to meet customers’ unquenchable demands for high performance computing. Optalysys is creating systems based on revolutionary optical processing technology that enable significant increases in processing speed for specific tasks such as Big Data Analysis while using a fraction of the energy. We aspire to build a device that will provide nearly 200x the processing capability using 1/6000th of the energy in comparison to the current fastest high performance computer.

Our first target market is bioinformatics. We are currently in collaboration with the Earlham Institute in the UK to build the basis of a sequence alignment device that will be launched to market at the end of 2017.

We are seeking a software engineer to help develop software required for this and future products. He/she must be capable of taking on and formulating new ideas and methods within a small team in the Reno, NV office for a dynamic and engaging start-up company.

Location Description:

Reno, NV provides an excellent change of pace from the bustling cities of the coast, while still supporting a rich atmosphere of art, food, and culture. Affectionately known as The Biggest Little City In The World, Reno is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountains just 40 minutes from world class ski resorts, excellent hiking and camping locations, and beautiful Lake Tahoe. Reno is also home to highly ranked schools and Universities, numerous parks, and several museums and theaters.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Expertise in C++
  • Experience with multi-threaded and concurrent programming
  • Experience in programming for high-speed and high-bandwidth applications
  • Understanding of software development best practices and processes
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively across geographically displaced teams
  • Enthusiasm for solving problems
  • Right to work in the United States

Desirable Qualifications:

  • BS or higher in computational sciences, engineering, physics, or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience interfacing with hardware systems, especially PCIe cards
  • Experience programming for mathematics or scientific disciplines
  • Experience programming for high performance computing environments
  • Experience developing software user interfaces with Qt
  • Experience developing cross-platform Linux/Windows software
  • Experience with image processing and filtering
  • Experience in OpenGL or Vulkan
  • Experience writing software requirements specifications
  • Experience writing software documentation
  • Familiarity with version control software
  • Understanding of software development best practices and processes
  • Statistical analysis skills

Role Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the implementation of a public and private API to interface with Optalysys hardware
  • Develop and support software for prototype and production hardware
  • Develop and support end-user software for production hardware
  • Implement high-level design specifications and test plans in actual software
  • Work effectively with global teams and readily share information with others
